Deep Clean vs. Standard Clean: Which do you need?

A clear, honest comparison of the two most common house cleaning services in Indianapolis — and how to pick the right one for your home without overpaying.

It's the question we get more than any other at the quote stage: do I need a standard clean or a deep clean? The answer comes down to how long it's been since your last professional visit and what condition the home is in today. Here's the 30-second decision tree most Indy households actually need, plus what's in each service and why the price difference is what it is.

The short answer

If it's been more than three months since a professional clean — or it's your first one ever — book a deep. If your home has been consistently maintained in the last 60 days, book a standard. Every first-time booking with Verdure starts with a deep clean so we can reset the baseline before recurring visits.

What's in a standard clean

A standard clean is the maintenance pass — the work that keeps a home consistently clean once the baseline is set. Dusting reachable surfaces, vacuuming carpets and rugs, mopping hard floors, scrubbing toilets, tubs, and showers, wiping down kitchen counters and appliance exteriors, emptying trash, and spot-cleaning anything that jumps out. It's the right service for homes that already look decent and just need to stay that way. Typical time on site: 2–3 hours for a 3-bedroom with one or two cleaners.

What's in a deep clean

A deep clean adds every detailed task a standard pass skips. Hand-wiping every baseboard in the home, pulling stove knobs off for grease removal, scrubbing grout in kitchens and bathrooms, wiping cabinet fronts top to bottom, dusting ceiling fan blades and vent covers, cleaning window sills and tracks, moving furniture to clean behind and under it, and by default the insides of the oven and refrigerator. We usually bring a two-person team and allow 4–6 hours for a 3-bedroom. The home ends up at a baseline where a standard clean can actually maintain it going forward.

Verdure's rule of thumb

Every first clean with Verdure is a deep clean. We need to see and reset every corner of the home before we can honestly say we're maintaining it. Once you're on a recurring schedule, every visit after the first is a standard — same thoroughness, less time, lower cost.

When you need a deep clean

  • It's been more than three months since a professional cleaning — or it's your first one ever.
  • You just finished a remodel, renovation, or had contractors in the house (drywall dust and construction grit hide everywhere).
  • You're hosting a major event — holidays, a wedding, an open house, or out-of-town family staying over.
  • You're moving in, moving out, or a rental is between tenants.
  • You've added a pet, a baby, or a second person to the household since your last clean.

Recommended frequency

Most Indy homes land on biweekly standard cleans with a deep clean once or twice a year. Weekly works well for families with pets, young kids, or a home office that sees constant foot traffic. Monthly suits lighter households — single-occupant condos, low-traffic townhomes, or homeowners who clean themselves between visits. A quarterly deep clean keeps the baseline from drifting over time. If you're not sure which cadence fits, start biweekly for a month and adjust from there.

Pricing difference

A deep clean runs 50–75% more than a standard for the same home. On a 3-bedroom Indy home, that's typically $279–$419 for the deep versus $169–$239 for the standard. The premium covers the extra 2–3 hours on site, the extra cleaner or cleaners on the team, and the detailed work (grout, baseboards, inside appliances) that can't be rushed. It also buys you the reset that makes every future standard clean actually land — skipping the deep and starting with a standard usually means the home never fully gets to baseline, and recurring service ends up feeling like it's always catching up.
